Private Facebook Video Downloader for Groups and Friends-Only Posts
Download private Facebook videos you can already watch by pasting the page source from your own browser, so Snapvn never sees your password.
Free, with no Facebook login on Snapvn. The page source is not stored.
How to download a private Facebook video
Three steps download a private Facebook video: paste its link, copy the source of the video page, then paste that source here.
Paste the video link
Log in to Facebook in your browser and open the video. If it plays in a feed, click its timestamp so it opens on its own page. Copy the address into box 1. Boxes 2 and 3 then appear.
Open the view-source link
Press Copy beside box 2 and open that link in a new tab. Press Ctrl+A, then Ctrl+C (Cmd+A, Cmd+C on a Mac) to copy the raw HTML of the video page.
Paste the source and download
Return to Snapvn, paste the source into box 3 and press Download video, then save the file.
What the page-source method does
The page-source method reads video links from the HTML that your own logged-in browser already received, so Snapvn fetches the file without your account or password.
- Friends-only and group videos: Any video your account can play, including friends-only posts and private groups you belong to.
- No password shared: You copy the source in your own browser, so no credentials are typed on Snapvn.
- MP4 and MP3 as usual: The same MP4 qualities and MP3 item as a public video, with no fixed resolution promised.
- Source not stored: Snapvn scans the pasted HTML for video links and does not keep it.
- Desktop first: Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a computer, and Chrome on Android, open view-source links. Safari on iPhone does not.
- Free, nothing to install: No fee, no daily cap, nothing to install.
Questions about private Facebook videos
Safety, groups, phones and failed sources are covered below.
What counts as a private Facebook video?
A private Facebook video is one Facebook shows to a chosen audience instead of everyone: friends-only posts, private or closed group videos and locked profiles. A public-link downloader cannot see them, so this page asks for the page source too.
Do I need to give Snapvn my Facebook password?
No. You never log in on Snapvn. The view-source tab opens in your own browser with your existing Facebook session, and just the copied HTML reaches Snapvn.
Is it safe to paste the page source?
The source can include your name and session details. Snapvn reads it once for video links and does not keep it, but on a shared computer log out of Facebook afterwards.
Can I download a video from a private Facebook group?
Yes, if your account is a member and can play the video. Open the post inside the group, then follow the same three steps. Videos from groups you have not joined cannot be fetched.
Can I download private Facebook videos on Android or iPhone?
On Android, Chrome opens view-source links, so all three steps work on the phone. Safari on iPhone does not open them, so use a computer for the copy step.
Why does the page source fail?
Snapvn needs the full HTML of one video page. Failures usually come from a partial copy, a feed tab instead of the video page, or a logged-out session. Open the video from its timestamp, press Ctrl+A, copy again and paste.
Snapvn is not affiliated with Facebook or Meta. The page source is read once for video links and not stored.
